Meet Recap & This Week

Thursday Night vs. Chartwell
The swimmers continue to improve their times from both last meet and last season.  There were several swimmers swimming new events this past week and they all swam them with smiles on their face.  This is very exciting to see them stand on the block with many people staring at them and then making it 25 yards without stopping.  I am very proud of all of our first time swimmers.  There were also several swimmers who swam the 100 yard IM for the first time.  The 100 IM is one lap each of butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle.  This is the one of the longest distance events and for most the toughest event to swim.

I would like to thank Coach Leanne, Coach Rachel, and Coach Ivan for running warm-ups and all their swimmer reminders/motivation behind the blocks throughout the meet.  Between making sure your swimmers are ready when they step on the blocks, these three coaches also swim in each meet.  This is an awesome commitment level they show to our team.  I could not do what I do without these girls – thank you!

Parents, you are awesome.  You made sure to watch the swims of your swimmer(s) even though there was no seating and space was limited.  I cannot say how great this is to see and how great it is that you also cheer on the other swimmers as well.  This is truly a family swim team – I love it!

Finally, it was great to see our swimmers enjoy some yogurt after the meet.  It is always great to talk with the swimmers away from the pool deck to get to know them.  The best part was watching many of them play tag outside just enjoying being kids.

The statistics….
We had 36 swims that are now new personal best times since last week’s meet.  Since last season, we had 64 person best times.  These numbers keep climbing through practice attendance and swimming the two-a-day practices on Mondays and Wednesdays.  The coaching staff is very proud of all the swimmers making the commitment of swimming twice a day.

Swimmer of the Meet
Mitsue Ostapiuk and Juan Suarez are swimmers of the meet because both show constant want to improve their strokes, to improve their speed, and to constant be there for their teammates.  The coaching staff loves their never give up attitude which was evident in each of their swims.
