Volunteering at swim meets - mandatory
Hello Swim Parents!
Welcome to the Neely Swim Team! It's hard to believe that the summer swim season begins on Monday, May 9th. We have 61 families signed up to swim this summer!
It truly takes a village to run a swim meet, especially the home meets. Aside from the coaching, swim meets are run 100% by parent volunteers and every family is expected to volunteer. Here is a review of volunteer requirements:
- One parent from each family is required to work at least ONE session for every meet that your child swims. (A session is one half – first or second half – of one swim meet.)
- Each family is required to work BOTH sessions at ONE home meet where your child swims. (One parent works the whole meet, or each parent works one half.)
- Your child will not be able to swim in any meets that the parent is not volunteering at, unless previous arrangements have been made with the volunteer coordinator.
It takes 43 volunteers to work an AWAY meet and 69 volunteers to work a HOME meet. We understand that not all families will be at every swim meet; for this reason, we always need extra help at the home meets. Please be flexible and understanding.
The meet schedule is on our website. Please RSVP for your swimmer(s) and choose your volunteer position NOW. We ask this for two reasons. One, you get to pick your volunteer slots and two, it makes preparing the volunteer schedules so much easier. We will close the volunteer sign-ups FOUR days prior to each swim meet. If, by that time, you have not selected a volunteer slot, WE WILL PICK ONE FOR YOU. Deck Manager, anyone?
Inevitably, we have one meet where many families are on vacation. If you are flexible and would be willing to work extra sessions at a swim meet, please email Christine at [email protected].
If you have any questions, please contact us.
Thank you,
Christine Stewart and Beth Ostapiuk
