Volunteering at swim meets - mandatory

Hello Swim Parents!

Welcome to the Neely Swim Team!  It's hard to believe that our first swim meet is next week.  We have 66 families signed up to swim this summer!

It truly takes a village to run a swim meet, especially the home meets. Aside from the coaching, swim meets are run 100% by parent volunteers and every family is expected to volunteer.  Here is a review of volunteer requirements:

  • One parent from each family is required to work at least ONE session for every meet that your child swims. (A session is one half – first or second half – of one swim meet.) Swimmers will NOT be able to swim in a meet if their parent has not volunteered to work the same meet, unless you have made special arrangements with Christine.
  • Each family is required to work BOTH sessions at ONE home meet where your child swims. (One parent works the whole meet, or each parent works one half.)

It takes  47+ volunteers to work an AWAY meet and 76+ volunteers to work a HOME meet.  We understand that not all families will be at every swim meet; for this reason, we always need extra help at the home meets. Please be flexible and understanding.

The meet schedule is on our website .  You will find all the swim meets and upcoming events under the "Swim Meet" tab. Please RSVP for your swimmer(s) and choose your volunteer position NOW.  We ask this for two reasons. One, you get to pick your volunteer slots and two, it makes preparing the volunteer schedules so much easier.  We will close the volunteer sign-ups on Sunday or  FOUR days prior to each swim meet. Therefore, volunteer sign-ups for our first meet will close this Sunday, May 29th. If, by that time, you have not selected a volunteer slot, WE WILL PICK ONE FOR YOU. Deck Manager, anyone?

Inevitably, we have one meet where many families are on vacation.  If you are flexible and would be willing to work extra sessions at a swim meet, please email Christine at [email protected].

If you are need additional information about how to volunteer, please click on the "Volunteer" tab or contact us.

Thank you,

Christine Stewart and Beth Ostapiuk
