Swim Team Updates

Hello Mallard Parents

Important Updates for this week:

  • New practice time for 13&Up
  • Chickenpox & HSP
  • Afternoon Practice Schedule
  • Stroke Clinic Update
  • Volunteer List for Thu meet

Swimmers age 13 and up will start practice at 10:00am & finish at 11:00am. Because the swim team practice is finishing earlier, the Ducklings class will begin at 11:00am.

A few parents have expressed concern with some of the swimmers and their "spots."

  • We have a 6-year old girl with HSP (Henoch-Schonlein purpua), an auto-immune disease that involves the inflammation of small blood vessels. HSP is not contagious.  It looks like a rash with numerous small bruises, which have a raised appearance. This condition can take 4 - 6 weeks to heal. Please be considerate to the little girl and her family.
  • Yes, we did have a family with the chickenpox. They have been cleared to participate in swim practice because they are no longer contagious.

Afternoon Practice

The first afternoon make-up practice begins tomorrow. The afternoon practice is designed to be a makeup practice because your child was not able to attend one of the morning practices. It is not designed for your child to attend all morning and all afternoon practices. Because we only have 3 lanes, this practice is limited to swimmers age 7 and up.

  • Mondays            4:30 - 5:30
  • Wednesdays      4:30 - 5:30

Stroke Clinic

Coach Madison has decided to open up the stroke clinic to all swimmers on the swim team. A different stroke will be stressed at each clinic; there will be a total of 4 stroke clinics. Some of these strokes may not be applicable to 6 & unders depending on their skill level.

Saturday, June 3               Stroke Focus - Breast Stroke

  • 9:00 - 9:30am     10&under
  • 9:30 - 10:00am   11& up

Volunteers

Thank you to everyone who stepped up to volunteer for our away meet. It truly does take a village to run a swim meet/program. Everyone who has a child swimming in the meet has been assigned a volunteer position if you did not sign up by the cut-off date. Volunteer check-in will be at the same table as the swimmer check-in. Whether you are working first or second session, please sign up before the meet begins, and pick up your volunteer badge. Brief instructions are written on the back of your badge or taped to your clipboard. If you have any questions, please see one of the ladies working the volunteer check-in.
