READ ME: Martin's Landing meet @ Home next Thursday

Greetings Neely Swim Families!

Next week we’ll host our first official swim meet of the season at HOME against Martin’s Landing. Please log in HERE and RSVP (either yes or no) your swimmers for the meet NO LATER than 8:00 pm this Sunday. Remember, parent participation is mandatory for all meets in which your swimmer is swimming. If you’ve not already done so, sign up for a volunteer shift as well.

Thursday’s arrival time is 4:00 pm for swimmers and no later than 5:00 pm for volunteers. Everyone, please check in with Carolina or Mandy at the Swimmer/Volunteer Check-in table in the breezeway. The meet will start promptly at 5:30 pm.

Thursday’s meet theme is NEON and glow sticks will be available for swimmers at the check in table. There will be a prize for the best dressed swimmer, so find that hot pink, lime green and bright orange!

Lastly, if you’ve not already done so, please RSVP your swimmers by this Sunday evening for the May 31 Kick-off Breakfast. Remember, we will feed only the swimmers and coaches, but we’ll have coffee for the parents!

Please note that it is important that you RSVP your swimmers on time.

  • The website is intentionally set to close RSVP’s on Sunday so that coaches can place swimmers in events, AKA “complete the lineup.”
  • Unfortunately, that process is manual, tedious and time consuming.
  • Adding or deleting a swimmer from the lineup requires adjusting the entire age group.
  • Should you find that you forgot to RSVP, or you need to withdraw from the meet, please text Coach Madison, Carolina Mock and me as soon as you know.
  • Competing teams “exchange lineups” at 3:00 pm the day prior to a meet.
  • While it is difficult to change the lineup after 3:00 pm the day before the meet, it can be done.
  • It is against ASA rules for coaches to change their lineups within 30 minutes of the start of the meet.

About swimmer events…

  • Our team is part of the Atlanta Swim Association and we must follow ASA rules when assigning swimmers to events.
  • Swimmers are limited to only two individual “scoring” (for points) events and one exhibition (non-scoring) event.
  • There are exceptions for age groups with only a few swimmers.
  • Additionally, teams can score points in only two of the three scoring places in individual events and only ONE of the two scoring places in either relay (Medley or Free).

With that in mind, Coach Madison will assign swimmers to events based on whether the swimmer can swim the event “legally”, i.e., without doing something to get disqualified, AND by times. Our team is smaller than every team against which we will compete this season. Coach Madison will take every opportunity possible to score points. Swimmers may swim events they don’t like. Please be supportive and encouraging anyway.

Thank you and have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day!

See you at the pool!

Christine
