Weekly Update #4
Hello Mallard Family,
Two meets down, three to go. Thank you to all the parents for stepping in to help and run such a successful home meet.
Please talk with your kids, they should not be climbing/walking on the brick walls around the playground, especially between the playground & basketball court. Last year we had a boy fall, and he had to get stitches.
We’ve got another busy week. Please read the entire email.

Philanthropy Friday, July 15th
This year our charitable giving efforts will benefit THE COVENANT HOUSE GEORGIA. I was co-chair this year for their biggest fundraising effort of the year, Night of Broadway Stars. Not only did the youth at COVENANT HOUSE get to perform at the event, they also were styled by my company, so I had a chance to get to know all of them better. COVENANT HOUSE GEORGIA serves homeless youth in Atlanta- providing them with food, shelter, medical care, and educational/vocational training. They are youth ages 18-24 and own nothing more than what they were able to put in a backpack or bag. They house the youth in bunk beds so they are always in need of twin sheets, towels, unopened toiletries, shoes, clothes and accessories that are in good shape. Donations should be for those items only this year. No children’s clothing. Put your donations in shopping bags or boxes and put them under the breezeway outside of the clubhouse. The COVENANT HOUSE truck will pick up all donations at 11 a.m.
Finishing your Tie Dye
The first step to completing your tie-dye is to let your shirt (or dress, bag, scarf, towel, etc.) soak for AT LEAST one hour. The longer the better, I let mine sit overnight and recommend you do the same. By letting it soak, you are giving the dye time to react with and stain the cotton fibers from the inside out. The fabric needs to stay wet for the reaction to happen so the best thing to do is leave the fabric in the bag it came home in until you are ready to wash it out.
Once your ready-to-wash, spread the fabric out, open the bag up in a sink, or tub or somewhere that you can easily clean and won’t be ruined if some dye gets on it. I generally use the laundry room sink. Take the fabric out of the bag, remove all the rubber bands and/or thread used to tie the design, unfold your tie-dye and take a look. At this point, I generally rinse the shirt with water, first cold, then warm and then hot. Rinse a couple of times at each temperature until the water runs mostly clear. THEN, Put your tie-dye in a washing machine and wash with laundry detergent.
Whether you choose to rinse out the unreacted dye or not, you will need to wash your tie-dye before using it. Put the tie-dye in a washing machine, WITH NOTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO GET DYE ON, and wash the fabric as you normally would. If you have more than one tie-dye to wash, it is OK to them together. Once the fabric has been washed, its ready to wear and can be washed and dried with your regular laundry.
Stroke Clinic
The stroke clinic will be this Saturday. We will focus on the Breast stroke. All ages will begin at 9 AM.
